Rebirthing is a therapy for personal growth. It is predominantly simple: it is lying down, relaxing and breathing. Paying attention to the relaxed breath will reveal many layers of inhibitions and non-essential controls. These impede our energy for life. They are a record of earlier shocks and decisions concerning survival. The rebirthing breath systematically exposes our unconscious strategies of defense against pleasure and aliveness. When these are noticed and conscious we can neutralize and integrate these patterns of past-time tension by breathing through them with present-time awareness of safety.

The technique is called rebirthing for two reasons. Firstly, because one's birth experience is a significant time for us to decide on the nature of the world and our personal limiting beliefs. So, people often re-experience that time in order to understand and integrate that experience. Secondly, because it encourages the parts of us that have not been fully alive to be born into the present.
